Mark O'Brien's Award Seals A Unique Family Double
Congratulations to Mark O'Brien (Derby County), who was announced as the winner in the under 16 category at the FAI Awards ceremony at the Citywest Hotel Dublin on 8th February - two years after his brother James (Birmingham City) was successful in the same age group and the first time that brothers have won in the same category. In recognition of hisaward, Mark was introduced to the crowd at half time during Derby's FA Cup tie against Manchester Utd at Pride Park on 15th February.
Central defender Mark joined the Rams on his 16th birthday last November and he had a run as a substitute in a recent Reserve game. As well as winning the FAI award, the O'Brien brothers have plenty more in common. Both have captained the Republic of Ireland in underage internationals and during their Orchard careers Mark and James won under 12 Premier league and Liam Brady and Conway Cup honours. In addition, both have a great desire to win football matches and are highly respected by their former Orchard team mates.
Mark O'Brien was a credit to Cherry Orchard during his eight years with us and we hope he goes on to enjoy a fine career at Derby County.
